To wrap up my projects for this year, I synthesized the laws and complications of Legal Immigration. After watching a short skit of legal immigration on a talkshow, I wrote down the four forms of immigration and researched around that. My main point throughout the entire project was to show how contradicting the idea of immigration is. Many people who refer to immigrants as aliens, and do not want them in America, are also the people who want those who are in the process to "wait in line". I wanted to highlight all the impediments and imperfections in our current immigration system, and where we went wrong. The end product would've been a law that synthesizes all of my ideas to form a less flawed system.

For this project, I made sure to finish off the requirements of a junior by the state. I had already had my College Resume completed, so for my project I focused on the College Research Paper. The thinking skill is synthesis, and I tied this in by taking the three different potential colleges and synthesizing and comparing them to figure out the perfect college for myself. I organized all my notes onto one document.

After asking the students of Apollo their personal immigration and origin stories, I decided to put it all together on a canvas. I initially thought to color the image, pencilling it all on my piece. I then settled on layering the map of Greece, "Apollo's" origin. Then I painted the white butterflies down at first to create a base. I later outlined the butterflies and that is where I think I went wrong. It isn't that I hated my final product, but I chose to outline the butterflies which creates an unnecessary separation. As you can see in the third photo, I had planned on incorporating way more butterflies then I ended up with. I used different sheets of the same map, cutting them out to create and vibrancy on the foreground of the piece. The colors I used are all the colors found in the flags of the countries that Apollo students have immigrated from in their family history. I lightened the shades to add depth and a sense of variety for my piece. My piece includes the thinking skill of synthesis because of the mixed media final product. It started off unintentional, but now is a testament to the thinking skill.
