history
For my history portion of my project, I created my own political platform for the students in the 600 SWA. I used their perspective on controversial topics that are making or breaking current candidate's political platforms. I found that the opinions and perspective of our SWA is very similar to US Candidate Cory Booker. On his political platform, he speaks out and talks about all but one of our chosen controversies. Booker didn't touch on Marijuana Legalization, so for that element of a politician's perspective I looked into another US Candidate, Andrew Yang. I used their sites to build an idea of what I can do to properly create my site. For this project, I chose to dive into two of the six topics I asked about. I read and researched both perspectives on Abortion and Marijuana Legalization to build context and an understanding why the people of the work area thought the way they did. I also happened to go down the other work area and wings to gather the opinions of those students to compare the perspectives to the 600 work area.
Reflecting on this project was really tough for me. My process during this project was not as smooth as I had hoped, but I am glad I was able to be redirected towards what my project has become. During the course of the project, I printed out different articles about American Compromise and my specific topics to build a better understanding of Democratic versus Republican perspectives in politics. I highlighted, and annotated these articles and started creating a page where I recorded the main ideas to each article. My process during this project didn't start off the way I wanted, but towards the end, allowed me to learn my favorite way of note taking and researching.

In Apollo, you have a choice for one of your projects to focus on your Annotated Bibliography. I chose this path for two reasons. I noticed that throughout my years of Apollo my Annotated Bibliography always had points taken off of it. I also chose this route because I lacked a process and the work ethic for this project cycle, so I wanted to ditch a traditional English component for this. The Annotated Bibliography actually organized my research in a way I never truly realized. Under each citation, I explained how the information influenced my project and how it gave perspective. I learned a lot about the formatting of an Annotated Bibliography through the last few weeks.

My art piece usually comes the easiest to me. However, this project I struggled figuring out what I wanted to do. I started off thinking about creating an abstract painting of the controversial topics. The painting was very tricky to ideate because everything would have had to be metaphorical. I ended up using the ideas of cartography and mapping to create my art. Mr. Grandi gave me a book which I used as inspiration to come up with the rough draft. I took the map of the school, and used the t-pins to represent the students. The blue string represents the Democratic perspective and the red string represents the Republican perspective. I later removed the map of the school, to leave an abstract view of the student work areas and their political perspective. Later, I looked into why the business wing may have more red string (republican perspective) than the 600 wing. Something I think I could have done better in this element, was record the same amount of people in each wing. If I had more time, or rather, used my time more efficiently, I would have recorded 25 students in each wing to properly give the perspective on the student body as a whole.
