Lockean philosophy was the idea that government was obligated to give those it governs the right of life, liberty, and property. John Locke believed that you must have ones consent in order to govern them. I decided to tie this into sonder by show casing that we are more alike than we are different. When we realize the entirety of our nation and all the citizens we house, we must also realize that all of these people do not wish to be governed the way they are. My thought process was to showcase the ideas of John Locke, for we all have the right to our own lives, liberties, and properties. We have the right to say no to how our nation is run and have to right to refuse to be governed the way they wish us to be governed. I originally planned on being straightforward and direct with my tshirt design and say, "You do not have my consent, Mr. President." But after meeting with Mr. Wimmer, he proposed to erase to address of this statement and simply make it, "You do not have my consent." This allows the consumer to take it in any direction they'd like.

Poetry to me is very symbolic and metaphorical. I wanted my poem to stray further away from Locke and Haring, sticking primarily to the idea of sonder. I chose a common setting I believe sonder is felt, and wrote about the feelings felt through this emotion and thinking. I compared the idea of sonder, to a storyline and characters in a bigger plot line. When I first came across this idea I watched a YouTube video published by 'The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows" and heard this metaphor and fell in love with it. I knew I wanted to incorporate it into my poetry. While writing, I made sure to keep in mind how I was taught to write poetry. I thought back to the standard poetic devices and highlighted where I used them.
After writing my poem, I annotated and noted where I could have gone with this poem, If I went back and revised it. I chose my favorite line and selected words I would go back and change. To revise my project, I would probably go back and make these revisions and notes make sense. |

Keith Haring is an artist who is known for these graffiti style people. When ideating and incubating for my project, I thought back to elementary school when we were asked to draw characters like Keith Haring in art class. Of course, Apollo gives you the freedom to do express yourself, but I still chose to go with this style for my tshirt design for more than one reason. Personally, I love how carefree this style of art is. The people have no strict form and are dancing, which gives a happier connotation to a very bold statement. The main reason I chose this style of art from Haring, was because each figure looks the same. Sure, one might be smaller than the other, but that is only because of my lack of perception and proper measuring. The interesting part is that they all are almost identical, a group of alike people, not realizing how alike they truly are. Sonder. I chose to make the colors different to stick to Haring's style, but also to bring in the fact that there are differences between every person, but in the long-run we come together to make something even better.
